I assumed Dr. Smith would not be a good communicator or a compassionate person when I was told that he was a first-rate surgeon with the lowest of infection rates. Since I wanted a first-rate surgeon with a low infection rate, I figured I could deal with whatever his shortcomings might be. My assumptions were SO WRONG. He was a terrific communicator, patient with questions and good with explanations that were clear, but not overly technical. What's more, he was kind. Before my shoulder replacement surgery, from which I have healed very well, he checked in with me and was positive, gentle, reassuring. I so appreciate this doctor! I recommended him as highly as possible.
