Specialized hip care in Nashville
Move with less pain. Return to the activities you enjoy. Find a treatment plan designed around your hip, your goals, and your life.
Led by internationally recognized orthopedic hip specialist J.W. Thomas Byrd, M.D., Nashville Hip Institute at TOA provides specialized evaluation and treatment for hip pain, injuries, and complex hip conditions.
Focused expertise. Connected care.
Nashville Hip Institute at TOA is a specialized clinical program led by Dr. Byrd and supported by a multidisciplinary hip-care team. It is part of Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance and is located in Suite 100 of the TOA Church Street facility.
This relationship gives patients access to highly focused hip expertise as well as the broader resources of one of Tennessee's largest orthopedic practices. Depending on an individual patient's needs, care may include physician evaluation, diagnostic imaging, non-surgical treatment, physical therapy, surgical consultation, or coordination with another TOA specialist.
The goal is not simply to treat an image or diagnosis. It is to understand the source of your symptoms and identify an appropriate path toward better movement and function.
Comprehensive hip care
Hip pain can affect athletes, active adults, performing artists, and people who simply want to move through everyday life more comfortably. Because similar symptoms can have different causes, an accurate diagnosis is an important first step.
When appropriate, treatment may include activity modification, guided rehabilitation, physical therapy, medication, image-guided procedures, or other conservative approaches.
Hip-preservation care is intended to address certain structural problems, injuries, and movement limitations while preserving the natural hip joint whenever clinically appropriate.
Dr. Byrd has helped pioneer arthroscopic techniques used to evaluate and treat selected patients with impingement, labral damage, cartilage injuries, and related conditions.
Recovery is tailored to the individual—whether the goal is returning to competition, work, exercise, performing arts, or comfortable daily movement.
Conditions we evaluate
Nashville Hip Institute evaluates and treats a wide range of hip conditions, from athletic injuries to persistent or complex hip pain.
