Preparing for Surgery

Prior to your surgery, TOA will verify insurance benefits, eligibility, obtain pre-certification and authorization from your insurance company for the professional services.

Preparing At Home:

  • Should you become ill with fever, a cold, sore throat or other illness, please notify your physician.
  • DO NOT eat or drink anything including water after midnight on the day of your procedure unless otherwise instructed by your physician. You may brush your teeth.
  • Bring any medication you take regularly with you to the hospital. If you are diabetic and have not received instructions concerning morning insulin, please contact your physician.
  • Remove all nail polish, make-up and false eyelashes. Wigs, dentures, contact lenses and other necessary accessories may be worn until you arrive at the hospital. Please wear casual, comfortable, loose clothing and low heeled shoes. You may want to bring a pair of slippers and a robe if you are being admitted.
  • Leave all jewelry and valuables at home. The hospital/surgery center can not assume responsibility for lost or misplaced valuables.
  • If you are having outpatient surgery or an outpatient procedure, please arrange for a relative or friend to drive you home from the hospital after your discharge. The medication you receive may make you drowsy for up to 24 hours, so driving is not permitted.

Please call your surgery coordinator if you have any questions regarding your procedure.
