Biography

Dr. Joseph Hare, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in the comprehensive treatment of spinal disorders in adolescents and adults. He cares for patients with conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.

He believes that the best treatment for many spinal conditions is no surgery at all. His approach begins with an accurate diagnosis and a thorough understanding of each patient's symptoms, goals, and lifestyle. He emphasizes evidence-based nonoperative treatment whenever appropriate and recommends surgery only when it is expected to provide meaningful improvement in quality of life. When surgery is necessary, he focuses on providing the least invasive, most effective, and scientifically supported treatment tailored to each individual patient.

His surgical expertise includes minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal fusions using the most current techniques including anterior, lateral, and posterior approaches, cervical disc arthroplasty and other motion-preserving procedures, spinal reconstruction, and revision surgery. He has special interests in motion-preserving techniques, navigation, and robotic-assisted spine surgery, utilizing advanced technology when it can improve surgical precision, efficiency, and patient safety. He believes that combining proven surgical techniques with thoughtful use of emerging technology allows him to provide modern, individualized spine care while maintaining a strong focus on safety and patient outcomes. His ultimate goal is simple: to help patients get back to their work, their activities, and the lives they enjoy.

He was born and raised in West Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Psychology from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN where he graduated with honors. He received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors, served in class leadership, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky. Following residency, he completed a comprehensive complex spine fellowship at The Indiana Spine Group in Carmel, Indiana, where he received extensive training in both orthopedic and neurosurgical approaches to spinal surgery.

Dr. Hare is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and believes every patient deserves to be heard, understand their treatment options, and play an active role in their care. He strives to treat every patient as he would a member of his own family, combining compassion, evidence-based medicine, advanced technology, and meticulous surgical technique to provide exceptional spine care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hare enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He enjoys being actively involved in his local church as well as being outdoors through hunting, fishing, and hiking. He is also an avid college football fan and proudly follows his West Virginia Mountaineers.
