Zachary K. Pharr, M.D.


Biography

Dr. Zach Pharr is a board-certified fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine with an emphasis on non-operative and minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee injuries. He currently serves as a team physician for the Tennessee Titans as well as multiple colleges and high schools in the middle Tennessee area.


His subspecialty training and expertise give him the unique ability to treat athletes of all ages with a focus on optimizing his patients for return to play. He is committed to treating every patient as family with care that is supported by the highest degree of compassion, innovation, research, and technology. Throughout his training, he served as a team physician for the University of Memphis Tigers, University of Alabama Crimson Tide, Memphis Redbirds and Birmingham Barons minor league baseball teams, Memphis Grizzlies, and the SEC Baseball Tournament. In addition, he helped care for athletes of Major League Baseball (MLB), World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and Alabama Ballet.


Dr. Pharr received his undergraduate degree from Lipscomb University while playing 4 years of Division 1 Golf with a Major in Biology and Minors in both Chemistry and Psychology. He received his medical degree (MD) at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine where he served as an elected member of class leadership, graduated Summa Cum Laude with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, and was selected by his peers to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his compassionate care. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the historic Campbell Clinic where he served as a peer selected Chief Resident. Following residency, he completed an additional sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama assisting with team orthopaedic coverage for the University of Alabama 2020-2021 National Champion football team.


In addition to patient care, Dr. Pharr is committed to education of the next generation and serves as an associate professor for rotating medical students as well as a clinical professor for Lincoln Memorial University Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and Lipscomb University’s Physician Assistant program. He has authored multiple journal articles, book chapters, and surgical videos, including multiple presentations throughout the country, and an award-winning paper for Tommy John Surgery of the elbow with UCL repair. Furthermore, he has invented hip arthroscopy instrumentation that provides safer and more efficient surgery that is used by surgeons across the globe.
