Dr William Carpenter is wonderful!! He has a great bedside manner and answered all my questions about upcoming knee surgery. He made me feel seen and validated. I feel very confident in his ability to help me have a positive outcome with my knee replacement surgery.

From the front desk, to the nurse, and to the x-ray guy, they worked very well together. I felt like Dr. Carpenter heard my concerns, and we found a great solution to solve my hip problem.

Staff was very friendly and helpful . Dr Carpenter was congenial but very professional and knowledgeable. He started with sharing with my husband and I , a copy of the recent X-rays that confirmed that my knee was worn out. I shared with him the pain and discomfort that I’ve been having for several months. I asked him, if I chose him for surgeon, what would be the protocol and the recovery time. The discussion answered to my questions.. I am having surgery in September with Dr. Carpenter and I very confident that it will be a successful operation with positive outcomes.

Dr. Carpenter is an excellent joint replacement surgeon whose expertise is the product of both high quality training and extensive experience in the operating room. He uses the best techniques and hardware combined with a computer guided positioning system to get wonderful results. I highly recommend him for hip replacement which I had June 2. I was using 2 canes and on my way to a wheelchair. I can now walk unassisted which is getting my life back. Thank you Dr. Carpenter!

I was treated with kindness and respect by Dr. Carpenter and his staff. I had good results with my knee replacement surgery. Much of the last twenty years I had pain in my knee because I had a bummed up knee surgery when I was eighteen. I highly recommend TOA and my cowboy boots wearing Doctor C.

She clearly explained possible reasons for my pain and gave me options of treatment. I will definitely recommend her to others.

I'm new to this area and don't have a Primary Care Physician, so I found Dr. Carpenter searching the internet. He got glowing reviews from his patients, so I decided to see if I could get an appointment. I've had problems with my knee all my life and it finally got to a breaking point where my quality of life had diminished so much that I couldn't take it anymore. When I called the Cookeville office to make an appointment, I thought I would have to wait at least a couple weeks before being seen. I was able to get in the next day. My wait time in the office was not even 5 minutes before they took me to X-ray and to see the doctor. Dr. Carpenter was professional and took the time to listen to me. X-rays showed my knee was bone on bone, so to surgery I will go. It is scheduled for May 4th. Praying for good results and no more pain. Update: It is now August 1, 2026 and at almost 3 months post op. The recovery has for the most part been good. I am again able to do 2-3 mile walks with my dog. I still have discomfort navigating the stairs, but I believe that is slowly getting better as well. There is still a little swelling in the under side of the joint that, I believe, is causing the discomfort. Other than that, I am pleased with my progress.

Everyone I came in contact with was very pleasant, professional and very timely, especially Dr. Carpenter! He is great! He always greets me with a smile and a handshake and puts me at ease right off. He is thorough and straight to the point and makes sure to follow up on questions or concerns! I would and have recommended him to anyone !

If I could give more than five stars I would. I ended up seeing Dr Carpenter from a second opinion referral. I had a previous knee replacement buy a different doctor and it was not done correctly. Up on first seeing Dr Carpenter he evaluated me and had me go through physical therapy for a few months. Then realizing that I was not getting better things were getting worse he said that I needed a second knee replacement on the same knee. In the hospital when he did my knee replacement and they got me up out of the bed afterwards immediately I could tell the difference. When I was standing there was no popping no buckling of the kneecap. I haven't fell at all. And I have not experienced the pain from the first knee replacement by the previous doctor. Dr Carpenter was very kind and very forthcoming with what I needed to know and I needed to understand. He listened to me complain, cry, get angry and finally just get where I felt like I was helpless. Never once did I feel rushed when I was in the office with him he listened to everything I needed him to know and gave me great feedback on everything I asked him. I am already 4 weeks from my surgery and I am ahead of where I should be right now. I can't speak for other doctors but I can speak for Dr Carpenter at TOA and the physical therapy department at TOA. They have done an amazing and phenomenal job at handling my care and getting me to where I need to be so that I can return back to work soon. I have been out of work from a fall for almost a year. And I finally see a light at the end of this tunnel. So if you're looking for a doctor or somewhere that shows you compassion and cares about your well-being and will make sure that you are will taken care of then I suggest you go to see Dr Carpenter at TOA. Because HE ROCKS!!!!!

Accommodated my need for a near-term appointment, easy check-in, short wait, courteous xray tech, handy shorts vs gown was a nice touch, in-and-out fairly quickly where experienced with doctor appointments, with on-site treatment.

Dr. Carpenter is truly the BEST. I had a TKR in Dec 2022 and I had gone to the surgeon that did my procedure so many times because it was very painful and not once did he help me. Fast forward to July 2025, I fell down my stairs because of said knee and broke my ankle. I got that pinned back together and did PT for it and again went to the original surgeon because now my leg looked like the leg emoji and would not go straight. I iterated that it was very painful and I broke my ankle because of my knee and he tells me “it’s my MCL”. I did PT for my knee and it wouldn’t go straight enough so that I could walk, so now I’m trying to get a second opinion and WHA LA …. Dr. Carpenter saved the day. I had an appointment and my only options were Dynasplint or TKR revision surgery…, In Dec 2025 I had TKR revision surgery and I’m only 2 moths out and my ROM is at 127 and I can straighten my leg and everything. Dr. Carpenter gave me my life back. Even though I have to go an hour and a half to see him, all my knee related issues will be handled by Dr Carpenter. It is well worth the travel. Oh also, my first TKR was the most painful experience I had ever had so I have to admit that I was nervous about going through all that pain again for the revision surgery… Well the surgery happened and I had very little pain after Dr Carpenter fixed my knee. He did a remarkable job. I can not express how grateful I am for Dr Carpenter. He is truly the BEST !!!! I highly recommend him. 🙏

Luv Dr carpenter . So so sorry TOA is not taking United Health Care Insurance as of this year 2026 I will sadly find a new facility , health care business .

Very quick and a great resolution. Super personable, all around. Access to orthopedics on an urgent care basis is a real step-up from traditional healthcare when waiting weeks for an appointment to see a specialist is often just not good enough. Dr Carpenter was great too.

Dr. Carpenter is very knowledgeable and willing to listen to your description of the problem before coming up with a treatment plan.

Check in was lengthy, due to questionnaire. Waiting area was spacious and chairs are comfortable. Met with Dr Carpenter and felt at ease right away.

After dealing with a Surgeon for 10 months that would not answer questions and kept me on antibiotics, I decided to go out of town to avoid the buddy system. I’m so happy that I did. Dr Carpenter was polite, listened intently, asked questions and determined what his plan of action should be. I returned in the afternoon to have a test before returning home. I have an appointment next week to go over the results. Having had a hip replacement months ago, I got more results in one visit with Dr. Carpenter than all the previous months. If you want the best Dr in his field, look no further. He is the BEST!

They are great was called & took to X Ray & then to room . Ms Jensen came in & went over my X Rays & said everything look good & ask if I had any problems . I told her about swelling in my lower legs & she told me about getting a brace till I get with my vein Dr . Knee is great & I’ll go back in July & then I’ll done . Thanks for great job

I had an appointment with Christina Jensen,PA-C Friday March 13 she was very nice and professional that was my last appointment she released me. My leg had healed TOA was great to me if anyone breaks their leg I recommend Dr. Carpenter and Christina Jensen, PA-C they will get you well. I’ve been to TOA twice now seeing Dr. Carpenter both times. He explained my X-rays to me and talked me through knee replacement surgery thoroughly. He was kind and patient and answered all my questions, I left after getting an injection. I went back again to get another injection as I am not quite ready for surgery. He again was so kind and patient. He’s very cool at waiting until I call it for surgery, no pressure at all.

Dr. Carpenter is a very caring doctor who takes the time to talk to each one of his patients. He makes me feel respected & heard. I can't praise him enough.
