Dr. Allen Anderson speaks at the House of Representatives before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health.

Last week, TOA surgeon, Dr. Allen Anderson testified on behalf of American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health concerning HR 3014, the Medical Controlled Substances Transportation Act.

What is HR 3014?

The Medical Controlled Substances Transportation Act is a resolution to change the current law regarding the transportation of controlled substances. The current law makes it illegal for a physician to transport controlled medications.

Why is this important to team sports & orthopedics?

This act effects team sports at all levels from youth to professional. Team physicians have a specific need to carry controlled substances when travelling with their teams. Team physicians should be allowed to carry a supply of medications for situations when a player is injured during a game that is away from home. Doing so would allow the physician to provide the highest level of care to an injured athlete.
