An Athlete’s Perspective on Orthopedic Care

Long before beginning her career in orthopedic surgery, Dr. George competed as a collegiate athlete at Auburn University. She credits that experience with teaching her the discipline, perseverance and teamwork that continue to guide her today.

Her sports medicine training also included a fellowship with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, where she gained experience caring for athletes and saw firsthand the preparation and commitment required to help patients safely return to the activities they love.

Today, Dr. George brings that same perspective to patients at TOA. Whether someone is working toward a return to competitive sports, getting back to a favorite hobby or simply hoping to enjoy everyday activities without pain, her goal is to help each patient regain the function and confidence needed to get back to what matters most.

Resilience In and Out of the Operating Room

Away from medicine, Dr. George and her family are active in the equestrian and rodeo community, including barrel racing. Her experiences with horses and fellow competitors have given her another perspective on resilience, dedication and the powerful connection people have with the activities they love.

Those lessons carry over into her relationships with patients. As the City Lifestyle feature explores, Dr. George sees successful orthopedic care as more than treating an injury — it’s about understanding what recovery allows each individual patient to return to.

The article also explores Dr. George’s experiences as a woman in orthopedic surgery, her life as a wife and mother, and the personal values that have helped shape her career.
