TOA’s Dr. Lydia White Joins Team USA Medical Team at 2024 Paris Olympics

Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance (TOA) is proud to celebrate Dr. Lydia White, who has been selected to serve as a Sports Medicine Physician on the United States Medical Team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. This prestigious appointment marks a significant milestone in Dr. White’s distinguished career and reflects her dedication to supporting athletes at the highest level of competition.

Dr. White, an orthopedic physician specializing in sports medicine at TOA’s Murfreesboro location for over a decade, will work closely with Team USA athletes throughout the Games. She arrived in Paris ahead of the opening ceremonies to assist at the High Performance Athlete Center, where athletes gathered for final training and preparation.

“It was a dream come true, it’s really one of the highlights of my career,” Dr. White shared. “I still can’t believe this is happening to me. I hope I can be an advocate and ally for these athletes as they pursue their dreams on the world stage.”

Her role includes providing care at clinics within the High Performance Center and on-site at competition venues. So far, Dr. White has supported athletes in sports ranging from track and field and basketball to fencing, judo, volleyball, and even breakdancing — a new addition to this year’s Olympic program.

The road to Paris was marked by hard work and determination. Inspired by a desire to give back, Dr. White applied for a coveted position on the Olympic medical delegation. Following a rigorous application and selection process — including hands-on work at the Olympic training facility in Colorado — she earned her place on Team USA’s medical team.

Born and raised in Tennessee, Dr. White holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University. When she’s not serving patients or athletes, she helps run her family’s Pelham, Tennessee farm, where she represents the fifth generation to raise horses and cattle.

“There’s no higher stakes or greater pressure than operating on your former teachers, family members, or the kids of your colleagues,” Dr. White reflected. “I already operate in this pressure cooker situation day in and day out, and ultimately, Paris will be the same thing. I’ll treat these athletes with the same care I provide back home.”

As Dr. White continues her Olympic journey, the entire TOA team joins in wishing her and Team USA the very best in Paris.
